isee systems Offers New Dynamic Modeling Workshop

"Dream Team" faculty assembled

Lebanon, NH, September 9, 2005 - isee systems, the world leader in Systems Thinking software, is set to deliver Introduction to Dynamic Modeling with iThink® in October 2005. "Our customers having been asking for help with their modeling projects," explains Joanne Egner, Managing Director of isee systems. "They have particular business problems that need creative, thoughtful solutions and know that, with some coaching, their iThink models will be better."

Continuing to benefit from the intellectual legacy and relationships left by company founder Barry Richmond, isee systems has assembled a faculty of systems dynamics and dynamic modeling leaders: Mark Paich, Steve Peterson, and Corey Peck. "All three faculty members are closely associated with Barry and his work," says Egner. "Mark and Barry actually shared an office at MIT and worked together for years. Steve studied with Barry at Dartmouth and then worked at isee systems (then High Performance Systems) playing key roles in the development of STELLA® and iThink. Corey began his career at High Performance Systems and has since become a very well-known dynamic modeling practitioner in the pharmaceutical industry."

"Our team brings a collective 60 years of modeling experience and teaching to this course," says Corey Peck. "We’ll use our real-world expertise to help participants apply iThink in ways that really add value to their business issues."

Designed for both beginners and those who have some modeling experience, Introduction to Dynamic Modeling with iThink will cover the following topics:
  • Dynamic Modeling Applications: Where and when to use the approach
  • Modeling Language: Stocks, flows, connectors and converters
  • The Dynamic Modeling Process: From problem conceptualization to solution
  • System Design: Using operational templates to generate behavior
  • Key Concepts: Feedback, system as cause, operational thinking, main chains of activity
  • Selected Details of the iThink Application: Interface features, built-in functions, arrays, etc.
  • Individual/Group Projects: Facilitated sessions in which participants work on topics or problems of their choosing

"People really understand dynamic modeling when they apply it to their own business problems," explains Peck. "The workshop’s guided, hands-on exercises help participating students and work teams build a solid foundation of modeling skills. The faculty’s teaching expertise and real world experience across a wide range of business industries and issues, gives participants a leg up on finding solutions to problems or improving current processes using the iThink application."

The first session of Introduction to Dynamic Modeling with iThink will be held October 24-26, 2005 at the Royal Sonesta Hotel Boston in Cambridge, MA. Registration information can be found at www.iseesystems.com/workshop.

About isee systems (www.iseesystems.com) — isee (formerly High Performance Systems) is the world leader in Systems Thinking software. Founded in 1985, isee developed STELLA®, the first software to bring Systems Thinking to the desktop. In addition to STELLA which is used primarily by educators and researchers, isee offers iThink® for business simulation. isee is a privately-held company with substantial global reach in business, education, and government markets.

About the faculty — "Introduction to Dynamic Modeling with iThink" is taught by three of the premier minds in the fields of systems dynamics and dynamic modeling. They are all principals in Lexidyne, LLC, a leading provider of dynamic modeling consulting and training services.

Corey Peck is the Managing Director of Lexidyne, LLC. He has guided Lexidyne to a position of market leadership in the pharmaceutical industry where clients include Bristol-Myers Squibb and Centocor. His work has provided the content for research publications including Net Gain: Expanding Markets Through Virtual Communities (Harvard Business School Press, 1997) and Net Worth (Harvard Business School Press, 1999). With Mark Paich he co-authored Pharmaceutical Product Strategy: Using Dynamic Modeling for Effective Brand Planning (CRC Press, 2004). Corey earned a BA in economics from Colorado College.

Mark Paich has over 20 years of teaching experience at Colorado College and MIT. He is widely recognized as one of the leading practitioners of dynamic modeling. His work with General Motors has been widely published and, in 2002, was honored with 2nd place in the Edelman Competition for best work in operations research and management science. He earned a doctorate in Systems Dynamics from MIT and master’s degree in economics from the University of Colorado.

Steve Peterson has taught countless dynamic modeling classes and workshops. Much of his 20+ years of dynamic modeling experience was gained at High Performance Systems where he was instrumental in the design and development of STELLA and iThink. In addition to numerous clients in industry, Steve’s clients include the US Army, US Coast Guard, and US Department of Energy. Steve holds a BA from Colorado College and master’s degree from the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College.
