About
this feature.
The language and thinking skills associated with Systems Thinking are powerful
vehicles for "making meaning" out of the complex issues we face in today's
rapidly-changing world. Using the framework and tools, you'll ask better
questions and arrive at better answers. In the process, you'll stimulate
thinking and constructive dialogue among other interested, "average" citizens.
It is in this spirit that we offer the HPS Story of the MonthT.
Stories are not
extensively-researched, authoritative pieces created by subject matter experts.
Instead, each story is a "this is how I'm seeing it..." put together in a short
time frame by informed, but non-expert, lay-people skilled in Systems Thinking.
The standard for evaluating these stories is not "truth," but rather "utility."
We encourage you to use these simple stories to catalyze thought and produce
discussion.

More
about the HPS Story of the Month Feature...
The HPS Story of the Month feature came
about in response to the unexpected death of our dear friend, mentor, and
colleague Donella Meadows. Dana was extremely gifted in many areas of life. She
was a superb teacher, a gifted writer, and a profoundly incisive systems
thinker. She had a profoundly positive impact on the lives of those she touched
through her writing, her speaking, and her personal interactions.
Dana had a rich set of skills to accompany her passion for applying a systems
perspective to the pressing issues of our day. The HPS Story of the month is a
tribute to her legacy. Each month's story, told using the iThink/STELLA
software, addresses some issue in the headlines. Stories are based on small
(1-page) maps or models, in keeping with Dana's gift for making her points
clearly and succinctly.
