Stella Tutorials
Tutorials
The following tutorials demonstrate how to use STELLA to construct a Population model showing the dynamics between population size and available natural resources. For hands-on experience building this model and additional tutorial instruction, open the models found in the Tutorials directory of your
STELLA Trial
or STELLA version 9 installation.
Model Building and Simulation Tutorials
Stocks & Flows; Graphs & Tables
This first tutorial demonstrates the basic mechanics of building and simulating a stock and flow model of a business process. You will also learn how to view the results of the simulation by using the Graph and Table Pads. This will become the foundation for each subsequent tutorial in this series.
View Demo
Converters & Connectors
This tutorial demonstrates the mechanics of creating Converters, linking entities using Connectors, and creating "Ghost" variables.
You will also become familiar with the “What You See Is What You Get” (WYSIWYG) nature of creating equation logic.
View Demo
Decision Process Diamond
This tutorial shows how to create a Decision Process Diamond, with associated decision logic.
You will also see how these are connected to other variables in the model.
View Demo
Sensitivity Analysis
This Tutorial shows how to use the Sensitivity Analysis feature, including how to set up and run a Sensitivity Analysis.
View Demo
Sector Frames, Run Specs & Tracing
This Tutorial demonstrates how to use Sector Frames and set Run Specs It also shows how to trace the logic that underlies a pattern being exhibited by a particular model variable.

Interface Creation Tutorials
Text Boxes, Buttons & Graphics Frames
This tutorial shows how to create a first-level user interface for a model.
You’ll see how Text Boxes, Graphs, Buttons and Graphics Frames can transform your model into a learning environment.
View Demo
Story Telling
This tutorial walks you through the Story Telling features in the software. You’ll see how to create a Storytelling Button to unveil your model step-by-step. You’ll also learn how to insert annotations so that people can understand the “story” that your model tells.
View Demo
Navigation Buttons, Switches & Numeric Displays
In this tutorial you’ll see how to extend the user interface for a model with the addition of Navigation Buttons, Switches and Numeric Displays.
View Demo
Status Indicators, Knobs, Sliders & Graphical Input Devices
View this tutorial to see how to create devices so that users can interact with your model. Knobs, Sliders and Graphical Input Devices make it easy for users to change variables or assumptions in your model and run simulations to discover the outcomes.
