Setting Up Export Links

The export feature allows you to export data from your model to an Excel worksheet or delimited text (.CSV or .TXT) file. You can choose to export all variable values in the model, or only the values for variables specified in a table in the model.

To use the export feature, create a link between the model and an Excel worksheet or .CSV file. The worksheet or file can initially be empty, but it has to exist already. The export process will automatically overwrite any information in the worksheet or file and set it up in the correct format.

When you set up an export link, you can mark it as a dynamic link. Dynamic links export values that have changed when the model run pauses or stops. Non-dynamic links export values only when you perform a manual export.

The export link also lets you specify the format for the exported data, including, in the case of exporting all data, the interval with which the data will be exported.

You can create as many export links as you want per model.

If you're using Excel files, you can set up export and import links to use the same or different Excel files. For example, you can import values from one file into your model, and then export model run values to a different file to retain the "before" and "after" values in separate files. Or, you can import from and export to different tabs in the same file, although with automated links this will trigger another import (because the file changes). Exporting to and importing from the same sheet (or same delimited file) will not work.

Note: You need to create the Excel worksheet (or text file) to receive the data before you set up the link. The worksheet or file can be empty. Exporting will replace its content.

To Set Up an Export Link

  1. Open the model you want to set up an export link for.
  2. From the Model menu, choose Export Data.

The Export Data dialog box will open.

  3. Use the options in the Export Data dialog box to set up the link.
  4. If you've run your model, you'll be able to export directly from the dialog, if you want to.
  5. When you're finished selecting export link options, click OK to save your setup.
