Importing and Exporting Data

Many models require imported numerical data from external applications, like spreadsheets. Or you may need to export numerical data from a model to another application.

Use one of these options to get data into or out of your model:

• For static data, test data, or data that don't change often, copy and paste the data to or from a spreadsheet or text file.

• For data from a constantly changing source, or when you want to update an external data container with output from your model, create import and export links between the model and one or more Microsoft® Excel worksheets (.XLS and .XLSX files), .TAB files, or .CSV files.

  Once links are created, you can import and export data automatically to and from the spreadsheet. The spreadsheet and the model are both kept in sync with each other.

You can import and export constant values, values that vary over time, and functional relationships into models. You can also import values while editing, automatically when the model is run, or when you, or a user of your work, choose to import. Because there is so much variety, there are many ways to accomplish importing and exporting.
