Introduction to Interfaces

Stella® doesn't just let you build models. It also lets you build exciting, intuitive interfaces that allow users to interact with your creations. Learn about our most popular interface features below!

The interface of isee systems' COVID-19 Simulator

Display Aids

Graphics Frame

Graphics frames let you add images and color to your interface.

Use embedded videos to add introductions, suggestions, or more in-depth explanations of your simulation. Videos can be uploaded from local files or linked from YouTube.

Use annotation popup windows to describe the interface. They can show automatically or open when the user clicks a button. Annotations can include images or videos.

Text Box

Use text boxes to add labels, instructions, and explanatory text.

Simulation and Navigation

Run Control

Run control buttons allow the user to run, pause, or stop a simulation.

Navigation Buttons

Navigation buttons allow the user to navigate to other screens within a simulation.

Time Slider

Use the time slider to show the progress of a simulation and see its output at different times.

Viewing Results

Graphs display results generated by model simulations. Graphs come in several types, including line graphs, area graphs, scatter plots, bubble charts, pie charts, pyramid charts, and bar graphs.

Use tables to display numerical output from simulations for one or more variables.

Numeric Display

Numeric displays show the current value of variables at each time period. They're useful for getting a precise reading on what is happening within the model.

Animation objects animate activity during a simulation and display the state of the simulation when it ends. Animate using color, position, size, and rotation of SVG files to obtain a wide variety of visual effects.

Status Indicator

Status indicators display the status of a variable using colors (green, yellow, and red) throughout the simulation.

Changing Parameters

Use sliders to change inputs between a range of values.

Use knobs to change inputs between a range of values.

Use switches to adjust the input values in your model by turning the switch on or off.

Numeric Input

Use numeric inputs to adjust input values by typing the desired value.

Storytelling gently introduces the model structure behind the interface by unfurling parts of the model. Annotations explain what structure means and partial simulation reveals the structure's implications for the model's behavior.
